Saturday 2nd November
Newcastle v Arsenal
1 - 0
Newcastle United claimed their first Premier League win in 5 matches as they took down Arsenal 1-0 at St. James’ Park. The decisive moment happened when Alexander Isak headed home a pinpoint cross from Anthony Gordon, giving Newcastle the lead after just 12 minutes. Arsenal struggled to create chances for themselves, with their lone shot coming from Mikel Merino in the first half. Despite dominating possession, the Gunners just didn’t have the cutting edge to break down Newcastle’s resolute defence. The win propels Newcastle up the Premier League table, while Arsenal’s title hopes face a significant setback. The Gunners’ recent form has been inconsistent, and this defeat further highlights their defensive vulnerabilities.
Bournemouth v Manchester City
2 - 1
Bournemouth stunned Manchester City with a 2-1 victory at the Vitality Stadium, ending City’s 32-match unbeaten run. Goals from Antoine Semenyo and Evanilson put Bournemouth ahead, and despite a late goal from Josko Gvardiol, Bournemouth held on for a historic win. Semenyo was instrumental in Bournemouth’s victory, scoring a goal and creating chances. City’s Erling Haaland struggled to make an impact, missing several opportunities to score. This defeat is a significant setback for City’s title defense, while Bournemouth’s victory boosts their confidence and moves them up the table.
Ipswich v Leicester
1 - 1
Liverpool v Brighton
2 - 1
Nottingham Forest v West Ham
3 - 0
Nottingham Forest continued the streak of impressive form we have seen from them so far in the 2024/25 EPL, dominating West Ham with a 3-0 victory. Chris Wood, in red-hot form, headed home the opener, extending his goal-scoring streak. West Ham’s task was made even tougher when Edson Alvarez was sent off, leaving them to battle with ten men. Forest capitalised on their numerical advantage, with Callum Hudson-Odoi curling in a beautiful goal and Ola Aina adding a third with a powerful strike. This impressive win has propelled Forest into third place in
Southampton v Everton
1 - 0
Southampton secured their first Premier League win of the season, defeating Everton 1-0 at St. Mary’s Stadium. The game was a tense affair, with both sides struggling to create clear-cut chances. It looked like the match was headed for a draw until the 85th minute when Adam Armstrong struck. His well-taken goal, just moments after Everton’s Beto hit the crossbar, sent the home side into raptures. Everton thought they had snatched a late equaliser when Beto found the net, but VAR intervened to rule out the goal for offside. This cruel blow dashed the Toffees’ hopes of a point and left them frustrated. With this crucial win, Southampton have climbed off the bottom of the table, while Everton’s five-match unbeaten run came to an abrupt end.
Wolves v Crystal Palace
2 - 2
Wolves’ wait for a first Premier League win of the season continues after a thrilling 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace. The game was a rollercoaster of emotions, with both teams taking turns to lead. Trevoh Chalobah gave Palace the lead, but Wolves fought back with goals from Jorgen Strand Larsen and Joao Gomes. However, Palace’s Marc Guehi secured a late equaliser to deny Wolves a vital victory. Despite a promising start, Wolves’ defensive lapses cost them, and the Eagles certainly tried to take advantage of it. The team’s struggles continue, leaving them rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table.
Sunday 3rd November
Tottenham Hotspurs v Aston Villa
4 - 1
Manchester United v Chelsea
1 - 1
Manchester United’s interim manager, Ruud van Nistelrooy, was denied a first Premier League win as Chelsea secured a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford. After a goalless first half, Bruno Fernandes gave United the lead from the penalty spot. However, Chelsea responded quickly, with Moises Caicedo scoring a stunning volley to level the score. Despite chances for both sides, the game ended in a draw. This result leaves United in 13th place, while Chelsea climbed into the top four. Van Nistelrooy will be hoping for a better result this coming weekend before he handsover the reins to incoming manager Ruben Amorim. Chelsea, on the other hand, will be pleased with their performance and will look to build on this momentum.
Sunday 3rd November
Fulham v Brentford
2 - 1
Fulham staged a dramatic late comeback to beat Brentford 2-1 in a thrilling west London derby. Brentford took the lead against the run of play through Janelt’s stunning strike. However, Fulham’s pressure paid off in stoppage time as Wilson scored twice, including a brilliant backheel and a header. This victory lifts Fulham to ninth in the Premier League, while Brentford drops to 12th.
